08 June 2017 - Fishing at Green Head and Point Louise near Leeman, Western Australia
Author: Admin, Comments: 0

Green Head is approximately 14 kms south of Leeman. It is a small township and we stayed in our van at the caravan park which was most pleasant with very helpful owners.  It is within walking distance of the General Store and chemist shop. // A great fishing spot is just at the back of the caravan park off cliffs near a lookout – a short stroll. We baited up with mullies, along with many other fisherpersons, over a June long weekend 2017.  I caught a very decent sized herring and fishing success was all around me.  Word got out that read more...

07 June 2017 - Fishing spots in Kalgan River, Albany, WA

If you want a place where kids can catch fish, Kalgan River is your best bet.  Located about 15-20 kms north east of Albany it is a very picturesque spot for the perfect picnic and fishing adventure.  We stayed at the Kalgan River Caravan Park (which has a Par 3 golf course free to residents) and fished nearby.  Kangaroos abound day and night. // We took our two grandkids aged 6 and 4 there at Christmas time.  Apart from the normal hassles of kids and fishing lines, they managed to catch quite a few fish.  They were all bream and pretty read more...

Cliff Head is approximately 37 kms south of Dongara or 70 kms north of Jurien Bay on the west coast from Perth in Western Australia.  It can be accessed via either Indian Ocean Drive or the Brand Highway. // We took advantage of a free camp for our caravan at North Cliff Head and there was also an area at South Cliff Head as well.  Both spots had a toilet and sites were very close to the beach.  Campers can stay a maximum of 72 hours free of charge. Armed with squid as bait I fished out front of our caravan while read more...

Best fishing spots in Exmouth, Western Australia According to the current WA Premier Mr. Colin Barnett..."Exmouth is regarded as one of the world's best fishing destinations with more than 40 different game fish species on offer, including all six Australian billfish species". I recently went to Exmouth and even though I don't agree with everything Mr Barnett says he is right about this. Exmouth has offered me some of my best fishing experiences ever and that is saying a lot as I have been fishing all over Australia since I was two years old.    // Fishing in Exmouth with kids is also read more...

21 April 2015 - Fishing at Shelley Beach, Albany, Western Australia

The salmon run was on in Albany over Easter and beyond and what a time it was for fisherpersons.  The salmon were big and seemingly wanting to be caught.  I would say everyone pretty much got a fish or three – awesome fishing. The weather was balmy with no rain or wind. //   We travelled from Perth to Denmark and then onto Cosy Corner with our caravan.  We stayed at a free stay overseered by a volunteer manager.  Very nice spot with a pit toilet and even a toilet dump!We bought some prawns as bait but did no good with them. read more...

Fishing at Salmon Holes in Albany - April 2015 Just after Easter 2015 we travelled to Albany to fish for salmon at the Salmon Holes.  We stayed in our caravan at Panorama Van Park ($35 per night) which was not too flash but adequate and very close to the fishing. // As you can see from the photographs above and below there were many fishing.  People were polite and there were not any issues about lines crossing, tangling etc. Lots of little kids were catching big fish.  I think everyone was enjoying the fact that fish were there to be caught – read more...

02 April 2015 - Top 30 Fishing Spots in Darwin Northern Territory Australia
Author: Admin, Comments: 0

Fishing in Darwin and around the northern territory is fantastic as some places you won’t see another human for hours or days even.  Pristine waters, billabongs and rivers and fish aplenty.  Life’s better with a boat but you can still catch fish without one and there are many jetties and wharves in the harbour and the city peninsula.  Remember to check the tides before you head out as these can affect fishing conditions and of course watch out for the crocs, sharks and jellyfish. //  Most anglers are chasing the popular barramundi but there are many other varieties of fish to read more...

11 March 2015 - Fishing in Augusta, Western Australia

Augusta fishing in February 2015. It takes about 4-5 hours to get to Augusta in the south west of the state.  We stayed at Flinders Bay Caravan Park in Augusta for our fishing holiday in Augusta.  It is a great spot, very well run and dog friendly.  (There is a dump site for toilet cassettes at Turner Caravan Park for those requiring it.) //   Skippy Rock is about 3kms from the caravan park and parking is very close to where you fish off the rocks.  The flatish rocks didn’t appear to be very dangerous but the day we were there the sea read more...

11 March 2015 - Fishing in Denmark, Western Australia
Author: Admin, Comments: 0

In February 201 we set off from Perth to Denmark (5 hours) to check out the Wilson Inlet fishing at Denmark.  We stayed at the Denmark Rivermouth Caravan Park on Inlet Road in our van ($35 a night) – a very pleasant van park it was too.  (We had called into the inlet just after Christmas and people were catching fish aplenty at that time.) // We arrived at the fishing spot next to the road just a short drive from the Caravan Park about 9am and began fishing.  We had been told prawns were the best bait but we could read more...

Author: Admin, Comments: 0

What the hell is a yabby? // A yabby in Australia is a freshwater crustacean and the two common types in WA are the Cherax albidus and Cherax destructor. The main type of yabby farmed in Western Australia is the Cherax albidus. Since the yabbies introduction to WA in 1932, they have reached all over the state.  Just so you know ‘yabbies’ and ‘koonacs’ are not the same thing.  Koonacs are small WA native crayfish, whereas yabbies are an introduced species.  We also have marron and gilgies in WA and it’s easy to confuse them all so google image search them if read more...
