Fishing at Green Head and Point Louise near Leeman, Western Australia
Green Head is approximately 14 kms south of Leeman. It is a small township and we stayed in our van at the caravan park which was most pleasant with very helpful owners. It is within walking distance of the General Store and chemist shop.
A great fishing spot is just at the back of the caravan park off cliffs near a lookout – a short stroll. We baited up with mullies, along with many other fisherpersons, over a June long weekend 2017. I caught a very decent sized herring and fishing success was all around me. Word got out that fishermen had caught tailor the night before as apparently they feed at sunup and sundown.
Next day we went to Point Louise (just north of town) to the rocky area between the headland and the cliffs which was sheltered from the breeze. There were also fishermen with lures getting herring regularly off the high rocks at the end. A decent sized tailor was caught with herring guts for bait. My husband caught a giant sea catfish (see above) with mullies which was rather exciting. Be careful of submerged rocks as they are hard on your gear. A very pleasant spot but one has to be mindful of the waves smashing against the rocks or a soaking ensues! Green Head is a pretty area and a little jewel along our WA coastline with lots of fishing opportunities. There is no TV reception in town but there is a dump for toilet cassettes.
