Fishing spots in Guilderton, WA

In early March 2014 we set off from Bull Creek for Guilderton (just up from Yanchep) for a night at the Caravan Park and a bit of fishing in the inlet where the Moore River reaches the sea.  The sandbar was closed so making the water reasonably calm and not tidal.  When we arrived about noon it was very pleasant weather – sunny and not unduly hot because of a nice breeze.  We had a shady site at the very well run Guilderton Caravan Park which was $45 a night for a powered site.

We set off with our fishing rods and mullies (blue bait) for bait and fished just in front of the public foreshore off a small jetty.  Pelicans and ducks were our constant companions.  We cut the bait into smallish portions and got cracking with the fishing.  There were many bites and lots of black bream were caught.  As the minimum size is 250mm we had to throw many back but there were a few regulation keepers.  The line only needed to be thrown out close to shore – medium hook and light sinker.

The wind sprung up very strongly in the late afternoon but did not seem to deter the fish.

Guilderton is a great place to take little kids to experience fishing.  The foreshore/river is safe with a gradually sloping bank and some rocks.  If you get bored with fishing you can go swimming in calm waters or tackle the big waves of the rough but beautiful sea.  If you want surf fishing it is only a short stroll from the caravan park.

Guilderton also has many walk paths and places of interest overlooking the sea. A photographer’s paradise and so very close to Perth – the best of both worlds.
